This paper is a research on the satirical stories written by Yeonam Parkjiwon and the literary worth of the works. The character of Yeonam's stories is very realism and practicality. This writer researched the epochal change and the distinctive character of Chinese stories in the 18th century, and to make the research detailed, described the tendency just before the 18th century, and the literary background of the era when Yeonam lived. And also analyzed the satirical stories written by Yeonam Parkjiwon, the practical character and the worth of the stories.
The unreality of fictions had been despised for long time in Korea, because scholars put emphasis on the reality when writing works. But the Korean fictions became more important things than any other literary work in the 18th century. The top leader who made it such a situation was Yeonam. Yeonam's fictions were very different from the previous works. The works were almost written with the contents of reality about social or political problem. The stories had taken practicality and usefulness which confucian scholars had really emphasized in literary works.
Many stories which criticized irrationality of the social and political affairs finally came out. They became useful stories to make good society through criticism on society. Yeonam had a distinctive purpose of correcting the bad habits in the society. These stories give the readers much interesting and make them change their mind to right. Therefore, the value of stories is more important than any other part of literature. Owing to Yeonam, the Chinese fictions which had been despised since ancient times finally became so much practical and useful achievements in Korea.
