The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between team atmosphere and exercise commitment according to the leadership type of middle school soccer team leader.
Middle school soccer team players who are registered as players in the Korea Football Association in Jeollabuk-do in 2019 were selected as subjects in this study. A survey was conducted on 300 middle school soccer team players using a convenience sampling method. Among the total 300 copies, 296 copies were analyzed, excluding 4 copies of questionnaires lacking reliability such as non-recording and double-recording.
SPSS version 25.0 was used for analysis and Cronbach' s α test and exploratory factor analysis were conducted to find out the reliability and validity of the questionnaire. One-way ANOVA and multiple regression analyses were conducted to verify the hypothesis. The significance level of all statistics was set at P<0.05.
Accordingly, the conclusions of this study are as follows.
First, the difference in leadership type, team atmosphere, and exercise commitment was analyzed according to demographic characteristics. As a result of the analysis, there was a significant difference in the characteristics of peer relations in the team atmosphere as a variable that showed a difference according to grade. Also, as for the variables that show differences according to the athletic career, there was a significant difference in the role characteristics of a team atmosphere, the peer relationship characteristics, and the behavioral commitment of the athletic commitment. Lastly, as for the variables that showed differences according to the time spent with the leader, transactional leadership among the leadership types showed a significant difference, and the role characteristics of the team atmosphere, team characteristics, and behavioral commitment of the exercise commitment showed a significant difference.
Second, multiple regression analysis was conducted to see if the leadership type of middle school soccer team leaders affects the team atmosphere. As a result, the leadership type had a significant effect on the team atmosphere. All types of leadership had an effect on the role characteristics, which are sub-factors of a team atmosphere, while servant leadership had an effect on the peer relationship characteristics and transactional leadership had an effect on the team characteristics.
Third, as a result of multiple regression analysis to see if the leadership type of middle school soccer team leader affects the exercise commitment, transformational leadership and servant leadership have a significant effect on the exercise commitment, among which transformational leadership has a significant effect on exercise commitment, which is a sub-factor of exercise commitment, and servant leadership has an effect on all sub-factors.
