The purpose of this study is to improve the multicultural sensitivity of elementary school students through the class using the elementary book art program. A multi-cultural family means that 'the family constituted of different races,'and it can be also called as "a double-cultural family". Multi-cultural education can be the comprehensible solutions for the problems caused by races, culture, language, social classes, sex, disabilities. An equal access to education should be given to the children who have different kinds of social and cultural background. The under privileged can be originated by the difference and discrimination caused be races or ethnic groups, which can be led to the social polarization.
The educational solution, therefore, should be prepared for the impending multi-cultural society considering the gradually increasing number of moving - in foreigners and their children. The conclusions that verified the effect of improving multi-cultural sensitivity in elementary school students' diversity, relationship, and universality on multi-cultural education applying the multi-cultural book art program are as follows. First, the multi-cultural book art program was effective in improving diversity among multi-cultural sensibilities. Second, the multi-cultural book art program was effective in improving the relationship among multi-cultural sensibilities. Third, the multi-cultural book art program was effective in improving the universality among the multi-cultural sensibilities.
Although it did not show any significant effect in all sub-domains, it showed significant change in three dimensions of diversity, universality, and relationship of multicultural sensitivity and 7 of 8 sub-factors, so the effectiveness of multi-cultural book art program was verified. It can be seen. The children of the multicultural families are the people who will live with us in Korea even though they have a different appearance and language. It is reasonable for us to help them educate and understand our culture in the long view.
The most important thing is that we, Koreans, should understand and embrace various cultures. We need to help the primary school students to have a multicultural viewpoint by understanding other cultures naturally without any discrimination against them. The life in a primary school is the most important moment for children to form their conscious structure. Also, it can be directly connected to our society in the future.
