The purpose of this study was to understand the role perception and the functional performance in a regional public hospital. The employees of a regional public hospital were selected as the research subjects and data was collected for one month from September 23 to October 22 2020. In this research the following conclusions were elicited.
1. The public medical center employees with the highest role perception ane functinal performance of a regional public hospital appeared to be over 51 years old in age; had more than 16 years of working experience; corresponded to offfice work and others in the occupational category; and was Grade 6 or higher in job positon.
2. The highest in the awareness and the functional performance among the regional public hospital projects was shown to include the operation of negative pressure isolation room, the management of comprehensive nursing care service wards, the offer of hospice palliative care service, and the student practice & training such as a nursing students.
3. The lowest in the awareness and the functional performance among the regional public hospital projects include the unmet health-care needs(mentality/addiction, infection, rehabilitation, burn, dialysis, etc.), the education for community health practitioners, the mental health education, and a project to expand medical services for mothers and children.
4. The most urgent and necessary role of the public district general hospital included the expansion of manpower(excellent medical staff, etc.), essential medical care(emergency·injury·cardio- cerebrovascular, etc.), and a budget support.
5. In the awareness and functional performance project in a regional public hospital, there was a statistically significant difference among all projects(p〈0.001). The medical treatment project for local residents and the public health & medical service showed the highest correlation. A correlation was also shown between the public health & medical service and the health education project for local residents, between the public health & medical measure and the project on infectious diseases.
6. In the canonical correlation analysis between the general characteristics and the perception on a regional public hospital project, the canonical function was indicated to be statistically significant(p〈0.001). It was shown to be significant at the level of p〈0.001 when being 146.233 in chi-squared value and 78 in the degree of freedom. In the canonical function, the canonical coefficient showed the highest correlation in more than 51 years old and represented a high correlation in 41 years old~50 years old and in the medical treatment project for local residents.
7. In the canonical correlation analysis between the general characteristics and the functional performance in a regional public hospital project, the canonical function appeared to be statistically significant(p〈0.001). It was indicated to be significant at the level of p〈0.001 when being 137.253 in chi-squared value and 78 in the degree of freedom. In the canonical function, the canonical coefficient showed the highest correlation in more than 51 years old and reflected a high correlation in 41 years old~50 years old and in the health education project among local medical center projects.
From the above findings, there is a need to establish a system to positively carry out the public care function through intensifying the function of a regional public hospital and vitalizing the role of its members. Even the government should retain a positive policy support in order to be capable of faithfully fulfilling a role of a public district general hospital
