Background: This study analyzed the influence of Korean adolescents' physical activity on stress perception, experiences of sadness and hopelessness, and suicidal ideation.
Methods: The analysis was performed using data from the 2018 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey(n=60,040). Logistic regression was hopelessness, and suicidal ideation.
Results: Physical education class participation and strength training significantly impacted stress perception. Physical activity, vigorous physical activity and strength training also significantly impacted the adolescents' experience of sadness and hopelessness. Physical activity, however, was shown to have no significant impact on suicidal ideation.
Conculsion: physical activity should be considered as an intervention for the prevention of stress and feelings of sadness and hopelessness. This is not the case with suicidal ideation and physical activity, however, which are negatively correlated.
