The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy(MBCT) in an online video conferencing method(ZOOM) for adult siblings of individuals with developmental disabilities. The participants of the study were 21 adult siblings aged 19-35 who expressed their willingness to participate the study. MBCT program for non-disabled siblings consisted of 8 sessions twice a week, 90 minutes per session.
After the MBCT program intervention to participant group, changes were compared between participant group and control group according to the timing of the previous, post, 4-week-follow up measurement.
As a result of this study, it was found that MBCT program had a significant effect on increasing the level of mindfulness and reducing depression.
This study is meaningful in that it is a study that conducts programs for adult non-disabled siblings, which is rare in Korea, and empirically verifies their effects. In addition, it is meaningful to confirm the usefulness of psychotherapy delivered online through online video conferencing method under the COVID-19 situation.
