The Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) publishes various materials for workers to prevent domestic industrial accidents and create a safe working environment, and provides safety education for them. This includes foreign workers working in Korea. If you look at the teaching plan for foreign workers that are currently posted in the safety and health data room, they are translated into their native language to help workers understand. However, Korean is written very small, so it is not a structure that foreign workers can easily get used to.
This study paid attention to this point and conducted an exploratory survey on teaching plan through a survey of experienced Chinese workers working in the Korea construction industry. Based on the research through the descriptive survey, we tried to find the problems of the teaching plan and the direction for improvement. This study can contribute to Korean communication among foreign workers who have learned key safety vocabulary in Korean in safety education. And it can also make the work environment of others safer. The contents suggested in this study are as follows.
First, the entire teaching plan was composed in Chinese, which is the learner's native language, but the materials and precautions frequently dealt with in the field were composed in Korean, and the teaching plan was supplemented to enable vocabulary learning. As a result, Chinese workers were able to understand or express the behavior they should be careful about in Korean through this lesson plan.
Second, it was found that the method of presenting the vocabulary in the Korean list together with visual materials helps the learner to understand it easily, and furthermore, it can be used to express Korean.
Third, through the results of the study, it could be inferred that learners could more easily focus on the educational content when the teaching plan was designed according to the basic structure (Introduction-Development-Closing).
Fourth, compensation for industrial accidents and guidance on accident handling procedures should be included in the teaching plan.
Fifth, Chinese workers seem to need an educational check on the Korean language, especially in safety education.
Sixth, Some translations in the teaching plan were found to be different from those posted in Korean, and errors in the order were corrected and presented in the proposed teaching plan. However, the differences in the translation of the outline of the disaster case presented at the final stage, the cause, and the safety measures were used as they are. These differences should be corrected by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.
Seventh, A teaching plan written in a coherent context is a good training resource to ensure the level and quality of safety training at all stages.
Through the above results, it was found that when the safety education teaching plan has a basic composition based on linguistic accessibility, Chinese workers can use the main business terms in Korean. And it was found that Chinese workers also wanted this kind of Korean language education in safety education. In addition, the education plan should include information on compensation and treatment process for industrial accidents. When designing a teaching plan in this direction, it can be an efficient and reinforced safety education resource.
