Background : Obesity and aging society are global problems. This study confirmed the relationship between physical activity and obesity defined as abdominal obesity in the elderly in Korea.
Methods : Raw data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2020, Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency were used. As for the research method, a chi-square test and binary logistic regression analysis were conducted to find out the correlation between physical activity, demographic, and health-related factors according to the prevalence of obesity.
Results : It was confirmed that physical activity has an effect on the prevalence of obesity, and in the case of sedentary activity, in particular, it was confirmed that the longer the activity, the more likely the prevalence of abdominal obesity was. In addition, the results of this study showed that the prevalence of obesity was high in non-smoking and major chronic disease prevalence groups.
Conculsion : Physical activity guidelines that can reduce exercise and sedentary activities suitable for the elderly are needed.
