Jhe, Seong Ho*
The late professor Pae, Jae Shick was occupied in theoretical systematization of inter-Korean relations and Korean national reunification issues all through his life. The famous scholar stressed international legal approach to national unification. We can see some characteristics in his academic world.
First, he established his own concept or legal philosophy on division and unification in international law perspective. In particular, he developed a unique concept of divided state on the basis of duality existing on national and international level.
Second, he deeply studied the German case as an example of divided state. But he reserved the automatic application of the German theory or western legal principle to the Korean case.
Third, he worked out some practical methods to explain inter-Korean relations, including the legal status of North Korea, Korean armistice and national unification formula mainly by dint of international legal principles.
