The southwest region of Korea became the center of Northeast Asia's seaborne trades as Jang, Bo Go founded Cheonghaejin(淸海鎭). Cheonghaejin maintained its dignity even after the assassination of Jang, Bo Go.
According to {A Journey to the Tang Dynasty's Sacred Places (Ipdanggubeopsunryehaenggi ; 入唐求法巡禮行記)} by Enin(圓仁), a Japanese priest, {Geographical Records(Taengniji ; 擇里志)} by Lee, Jung Hwan, and {Landscape Pictures of Goryo(Goryo Dogyeong ; 高麗圖經)} by Seogeung(徐兢), an envoy from the Song Dynasty, the southwest region was an important point in the seaborne trading of Korea and China between Late Shilla Empire and the Goryo Dynasty. {A Journey to the Tang Dynasty's Sacred Places} states that Enin started from the Port of Jeoksan in Shandong, China to arrive at the open seas of Chungcheong-do of Korea and stopped by Goi-do(Shinan -gun) Geocha-do(Jindo-gun) An-do(Yeosu) to travel to Japan. {Taengniji} says that [Yeongam Gurim Heuksan-do Hong-do Gageo-do Yeongpa] was the most popular seaborne route in the Late Shilla Empire. Also, {Landscape Pictures of Goryo} states that Seogeung and his suite traveled [Yeongpa Heuksan-do Nagwol-do Wi-do Sik-do Gunsan-do…]. In this respect, we can assume that the southwest region of Korea played an important role in the seaborne trading of Korea and China between the Late Shilla Empire and the Goryo Dynasty.
Therefore, the southwest region had various key ports. To name a few, there were Sangdae Port of Gurim Village, Eupdong Village of Heuksan-do, Geumsan of Anjoa-do, Sudo of Bigeum-do, and Jilli of Ui-do. In particular, Gurim Village and Eupdong Village were well-known international ports.
