In this thesis, I have intended to examine the characteristics of children’s song in Japanese Colonial Period, because it was not just a simple childish little song but a complicated stylish song with its own aesthetics. Modern children’s songs were created and enjoyed popularly in 1920-1930. There were some reasons. First, in those times children’s song were sung in the name of national movement among young people, so there were usually national consciousness in those songs. Second, children’s songs were made of lyrics and music which was transmit fron generation to generation. Third, children’s songs appealed to people’s heart which was broken by Japanese colonial period.
But above all, the most important reason that people in those days loved children’s song is the simple, pure, angel-like mind of children embed in those songs. In children’s song, their mind were expressed by simple rhythm, traditional parallelism, spontaneous nature-love spirit. And grown-up poet express himself by the voice child-speaker. There are some, complicated distance because the poet is not a child but a grown-up man who tried to disguise to be a child.
