The UCP 500 would be frequently misused, misinterpreted and manoeuvred as a mechanism for raising unwarranted disputes and disagreements. There have been many disputes over the conformity of the transport documents to the UCP 500 articles. The main reason is that certain transport documents that were compliant under the old UCP 400 rules are now no more acceptable by the banks. As a result, 90 of transport documents in the U.S.A. and 60% in the U.K. are rejected by the banks. The first revision of UCP 500(Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits - International Chamber of Commerce Publication No. 500) in 12 years is close to completion. The new UCP 600 will come into effect in July 1, 2007. The new articles of UCP 600 contains many changes. This paper is to present reasonable interpretation of the article 19, 20, 21, 22 of UCP 600 by reviewing them, to provide the interpretation of however named, the name of the carrier, the signature, the on board notation, the date of shipment, intended vessel, the port of loading, transhipment, full set.
