The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences of family value and parental role responsibility and how family value related to parental role responsibility among three generations. 'Family Value' scale and 'Parental Role Responsibility' scale were administered to 34 three generation families. The data were analyzed by Cronbach α tests, means, standard deviations, MANOVAs, discriminant analyses, Pearson's Correlations, and canonical correlation analyses.
The results of this study were as follows: 1. There were significant differences in 'family value' and 'parental role responsibility' among three generations. 2. Family value was presumably associated with parental role responsibility. After further examination, canonical correlation analysis indicated that 'romantic family ideology' was the most powerful predictor of an grandparents' parental role responsibility. Among parental role responsibility factors the best predicted one by grandparents' family value was 'norm and social value', the next ones were 'survival skills and interface role(between child and family). On the other hands, the most powerful predictor of an parents' parental role responsibility was 'view on marriage'. Cognitive development factor was best predicted by parents' family value. Also, the most powerful predictor of an children's parental role responsibility was 'normal family ideology'. 'Survival skills' factor was best predicted by children's family value.
