The purpose of this study is to investigate the reality of the current situation of Korean music education at kindergartens and to illustrate the direction for the future Korean music education at preschools.
The tasks of the study are determined as follows.
1. To research the present situation of Korean music education at kindergartens.
2. To inquire into the thoughts of kindergarten teachers about Korean music and its education.
3. To present the future direction of Korean music education at kindergartens.
The subjects of this research were 243 teachers working at kindergartens in Busan. This research was done by taking questionnaires composed of 80 questions created by a pilot study and data statistics through SPSS pc+.
The conclusion of this study were as follows.
First, there seem to exist two groups of teachers teaching music at kindergartens. One group shows high awareness of the need of the education and has more Korean music programs for children. However, the other group has low awareness of the needs and prepares Korean music programs barely.
Second, most teachers do not have the experience of Korean music education and they believe that the biggest problem of Korean music education at kindergarten is their lack of skills for the music and rigid teaching system.
Third, most of the teachers believe for better education in the future teachers need to develop their teaching methodology and they want to learn the skill of Korean music instruments.
