This thesis intends to examine the properties of Sa-lang-ui-seon-mul(A Gift of Love) and the significance of Bang Jeong-whan’s adaptation on the history of Children’s literature. Sa-lang-ui-seon-mul is estimated as a collection of adapted fairy tales to be changed suitably for Korean emotion. Moreover, Bang attempted to imagine nation and create nationality under colonial condition through translating foreign fairy tales. He strengthened and internalized nationalistic narration through constituent system of Sa-lang-ui-seon-mul and adaptation as a ‘strategic rewriting’. It is different from contemporary collections of adapted fairy tales which are based on a Christian view of the world. It is based on nationalism and the thought of Chondogyo. For example the adaptation of ‘A Prince and a Swallow’(The Happy Prince) contains ‘Chondogyo socialism’ as ‘an absolute equality.’ Bang subjectively acculturated western Children’s literature, especially fairy tales, through taking charge of an important role to reconstruct modern ‘dong-wha’(fairy tales).
