The concept of memory always connected with political and social power. So some memories are represented and others are silenced. Especially, post-colonial situation eagerly need to re-memory of the colonial experience. The post-colonial Korea also liquidated the activity of pro-Japanese and re-wrote the Korean history as the nation history. Comparing with the Japanese understanding of the colonized Korean, the new liberated Koreans invented Korean identity which based on the virtue, strength, and perspicacity and so on. The key point of these works are re-writing of Korean history and new-writing of independence movement history. Choi Nam-son and his activity appeal to solve these questions.
Choi’s career as a publisher, editor, and writer is very suggestive for our study of the memory of post-colonial Korea. During the time, he eagerly wrote Korean history and independence movement history. However he was regarded as pro-Japanese because he had worked for Imperial Japan. I examined Choi’s publication activities from in 1945 to in 1948. Firstly, by investigating Choi’s history books and article, I identify why he devoted himself to publishing. Secondly, I confirm Choi’s effort to re-making Korean that explained himself for his collaborated behavior. Lastly, through the scrutiny of the memory for Choi Nam-son, I clarify these memories closely connected with the experience of narrators. Analyzing these three topics would like to help deepen our understanding of Korean nationalist's activities and the ultra nationalism during the post-colonial period.
