Since July 1st, 2008, after years of preparation, 'the Elderly Long-term care Insurance System' has been in effect in Korea for the purpose of settling by community joint sharing, such problems as the increase in the care-need population as an aftermath of the rapid growth of the elderly people, realistic limitation lying in caring the aged due to nucleus families and women's expanded roles in the community, heavy monetary burden among families with elderly people, and the social burden of the medical cost for the aged.
For 'the Elderly Long-term care Insurance System' to be firmly rooted as a social insurance, and for such long-term care service required by the local community residents to be stably sustainable, all efforts should be tried out in such fields as the expansion of the beneficiary, raising the efficiency of insurance premiums, modification of the premium allotment framed by the income-level, quantitative and qualitative improvement of the long-term care service, balanced securing of the long-term care facility, and the opinion tuning about the long-term care salary between the recipient aged and the care provider.
