This study claims to be a departure from the current trend of examining trans-Pacific relations between Asia and Latin America. It tries to address emerging dynamism in the business interactions vis-à -vis traditional trans-Pacific modus operandi of trade between manufacturing goods and commodities. Here, five emerging patterns of trans-Pacific integration are suggested: (1) value chain insertion and creation, (2) Latin American direct investment in Asia, (3) localization of natural resource seeking activities, (4) partnership strategy in trans-Pacific business activities, and (5) service sector integration. The main rationale of the paper is that the trans-Pacific regime should be supported by long-term sustainable integration efforts such as inter-regional investment or value chain.
