(Analysis of
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a 12-week sitting
volleyball program on the muscular strength and mental health of women with
disabilities in a bid to provide information on the treatment, rehabilitation and
social rehabilitation of women with disabilities and the spread of sport
participation among the disabled. The subjects in this study were 22 women with
disability who were in their 30s and up and resided in the city of A. An
experimental group and a control group were randomly organized with 11 each.
The experimental group participated in a 12-week sitting volleyball program, and
the control group didn't. The collected data were analyzed with a SPSS/WIN Ver.
17.0 program. Statistical data on mean and standard deviation for each dependent
variable were obtained, and analysis of covariance was utilized to compare the
post test collective averages of the two groups by selecting their pretest scores
as a covariable. The level of statistical significance was set at .05.
As a result of analyzing the effect of the 12-week sitting volleyball program on
the isokinetic muscular strength and mental health of the women with disabilities,
the following findings were given:
In terms of isokinetic muscular strength, they showed an improvement of
60?sec, 180?sec and 240?sec in the muscular strength of shoulder protractor.
As for changes in mental health, there was some reduction in tension, depression,
anger, fatigue and confusion, which were negative mental health factors. Their
vitality, one of positive factors, was on the rise to some degree. Specifically,
there was a great reduction in tension. Therefore the 12-week sitting volleyball
program brought a change to the isokinetic muscular strength and mental health
of the women with disabilities. In the future, long-term, prolonged training should
be provided for them to undergo better changes.
