Given the popularization of literary centers in Korea, a few new ones are opening each year. The foundation of such literary centers originated from a growing interest in literature, the enhancement of regional images and regional revitalization, bringing the total to 45 for such literary centers in the country. Despite the growth of such centers, many such centers, however,
are faced with revitalization problems due to insufficient institutional and policy support. As a case study, this paper examines the importance of the literary curator for the revitalization of literary centers. This study focuses on the role of the literary curator in literary center revitalization through local cases: Mokpo Museum of Literature and Choi Myeonghee Literary Museum. Especially, these two centers demonstrate that literary value and regional characteristics lie at the core of literary center revitalization. This paper argues that promotion of literary centers also contributes to regional development, including citizen networking. Last but not least, this study suggests a new policy of issuing certificates to literary curators. I propose
this innovative measure as a means of adjusting and improving the current curator certificate system, with the aim of recruiting outstanding culture research personnel.
