우선 보이스가 <무제-태양의 나라>를 ‘에너지 플랜’이라는 미국 강연 투어에서 완성했고 보이스는 이 강연 투어를 ‘에너지의 소통 과정’이라고 명명했음을 주지한다. 다시 말해서 강연에서 발생하는 자신의 행위, 대화, 표현과 강연의 참여자들의 질문, 이해, 반응 등을 모두 에너지의 발생으로 보고 있음을 뜻한다. 결과적으로 강연에 사용한 흑판은 이러한 에너지의 발생과 교류가 담겨 사회적 조각 이론에 따른 ‘사회를 변화시키는 힘’이 될 수 있었다. 그리고 여기에 사용된 강연용 흑판은 보이스의 이론과도 결부된 개념적인 미술 작품으로 발전하는 방향의 전환으로 인식될 수 있다. 따라서 <무제-태양의 나라>에 함축된 보이스의 의도와 이에 관한 전략을 살펴보는 것은 이후 1970년대 보이스의 흑판을 연구하는데 있어서 중요할 것으로 여겨진다.This study searches the progressive process of the blackboard materials which Beuys used in lectures of 1970s, and Untitled-Sun State (1974) was made in a lecture of ICA in Chicago. A blackboard, basically, cannot be divided with the lecture that makes it. So lots of studies about Beuys' Blackboards continued to approach that Beuys might be inspired by Rudolf Steiner and he accepted the method of Steiner's lecture manners and expressions to his blackboards. But there was a particular difference in Untitled-Sun State because Beuys fixed the surface of that with spray to preserve it as an art work. It makes us to read his purpose that he gives the meaning of separate possibility just like an independent art work into the blackboard. And the approach like this also helps us to escape from the point of view that blackboard belongs to the lecture as a documentation. Therefore, this study starts at this point and aims to discuss about the process of the blackboard as an art work.
To begin with, I want to notice that Beuys made Untitled-Sun State in the lecture tour of “Energy Plan for the Western Man” in America, and stated this lecture tour as “the communication process of Energy”. In other words, it means that Beuys regarded his gestures, communications, expressions, audience's reactions, comprehension, and questions which occurred in his lecture as the circulation of energy. As a result, the blackboard of this lecture could be considered “the changing force of Society” according to Beuys' theory of “Social Sculpture” because it should be contained the occurrence and communication of energy. And I suggest that this blackboard can be considered a transitional work going on to the conceptional art work associating the theory of “Social Sculpture”. Thus it would have an importance to examine the purpose and strategy of Beuys which is implied into Untitled-Sun State, and it would also help to study on the blackboards of Beuys in 1970s.
