This paper is a sociological study on subcultures in a network age.
In existing research, subcultures are ordinarily considered as closelyknit
groups or counter-cultures. This study emphasizes that subcultures
have a need of being analyzed in connection with complexity and
performativity. This paper discusses on symbolic boundaries and
‘flows’. As symbolic boundaries are conceptual distinctions made by
a dialective interplay of processes of internal and external definition,
examining them allows us to capture the dynamic dimension of social
relation. This idea of symbolic boundaries has come to play a key
role in understanding subcultures. But it is necessary to emphasize
flows to explain the different types of audiences and plural meaning.
Flows are concerned with fluidity and these are relevant concept of
media-flows and active audiences. Flows In digital network turn up as
plural cyber-subcultural groups based on communicative principle.
Lastly, this study adds to have a use of a qualitative research method,
which is meaningful as participant observation and is the purpose for
analyzing fruid identities and project conducts in cyber-fandom.
