This article examines characteristics of “Tea-party movement” and its contribution
to the victory of the Republican party in 2010 midterm election. Based
on the findings, this article claims several implications of this movement for
the change in US party politics. It is suggested that Republican success with
the support of “Tea-party movement” may lead to the possible partisan realignment,
but its consequences are dependent upon the intra-party conflicts of GOP
between social conservatives and economic conservatives. At this moment, it
can be said that the Republican party, with its electoral success, paved the
way to broaden its base of support among the US electorate.
