Information on long-term geographical formation process of island is positively
helpful background for us to understand the ecological and cultural diversity.
Structure and function of island ecosystem is diverse according to the formation process of island, its geographical differentiation, and characteristics of surrounding seascape (or water body). Island has been used as stepping stone for biological migration and also has roled as habitat source. Although there are many islands in the world, all of them are different according to geological and historical formation process and cultural background. Human adaptation pattern on island, which rely on limited natural resources is an important experimental model suggesting sustainability of men on Earth. This paper is representing an importance of mutual relationship between man and nature systems based on geographical, biological and ecological history. Case studies on Easter Island and Mediterranean
islands were well-know legacy on balance of capacity of natural resource and sustainability of mankind.
