The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential demands and the characteristics of potential American customers (Hawaii and mainland America) of the medical tourism in Korea, develop medical tourism products that meet the needs of the potential customers and its effect on the medical tourism industry in Korea itself. The areas that were explored are the fundamental data required for the efforts to make the inbound tourism strategies and the development of an approach to make Korea a hub state of medical tourism in the world. The result of this study supported the notion that the American customers whose retirement is imminent are highly interested in the medical tourism, which was manifested in a considerable number of existing studies. It was discovered in this study that the important task ahead is to assure the potential customers of the safety and reliability of Korean medical tourism through continued efforts in promotion, eventually resulting in the purchasing intent of the potential customers. Meanwhile, the result also showed that the most preferred treatments by the Americans in medical tourism were in the order of dental treatments, health check-ups, and oriental medicine treatments.
