This study was carried out in order to investigate the actual conditions of safety education for young children and their teachers in inclusive early childhood education settings and to provide some suggestions for improving the conditions. For this study, questionnaires were given to 203 teachers working with children with disabilities in the Gwangju and Jeonnam areas.
The survey results were as follows: first, although the number of teachers who are being trained is increasing, the content of the training is still limited and biased. There should be more training options and the content should change. Second, the safety education for disabled children and their teachers was not much different from that of a regular kindergarten. Inclusive early childhood education organizations need more systematic and consistent support for educational instruments and books. Third, the practice of safety education varied from one organization to another. Fourth, the teachers thought that systematic teacher training should be available all the time and the content of the training should also improve.
