Since the liberation of Korea from Japanese colonial annexation after the World War II, territorial dispute over Dokdo island has been major source of conflicts between two States. As both Korea and Japan declared the 200-NM EEZ in 1996, the delimitation of the EEZ in the East Sea has become another source of conflicts between two States. Since then, newspaper coverage concerning Dokdo island suddenly skyrocketed. Articles in the most of Korean newspapers generally carried two themes about the EEZ dispute in the East Sea: (1) Dokdo island generates its own EEZ. (2) The EEZ boundary in the East Sea shall be a median line between Dokdo island and Japanese Oki island. However, many of articles in Korean newspapers were based wrong reasonings in insisting these themes. Under the current international law and practices, the median line between Dokdo island and Oki island as the EEZ boundary can be hardly expected, if this dispute is referred to the international tribunal. Those articles provided Korean readers wrong informations on this problems and gave negative burden against the Korean diplomacy.
