With ever increasing complexity and mutual dependence among nations, the mainstream news media still play a crucial role in providing valuable information with the public. Not only do those media take lion share of global news but they wield sufficient power in shaping international public opinion. However, few studies have attempted to evaluate the quality of international news provided by web-sites. For this purpose, at first, such nationally well-known newspapers as Han-gyurae(Korea), New York Times(U.S.), Le monde(France), FAZ(German), Ashahi (Japan), Kwangmyung(China) and Guardian(U.K) have been selected. By utilizing content analysis, then, the authors evaluated those factors including diversity of issue, news value, by-lines, integrity of information and surveillance function. Research results indicated the consistency of chronicle problems of international news along with national differences in spite of digital revolution. To be specific, they paid less attention to the developed countries as well as shed more light on such international agenda associated with their national interest. Compared with other countries, in particular, Korea newspaper showed strong tendency toward entertainment while neglecting a wide range of international agenda which have good deal to do with global common goods. The authors hope this study to initiate further discussion over the status and negative impact of the current international news in Korean newspapers. Providing a platform in which various stake-holders including journalists, academian and policy-makers will be able to find out practical strategies for improving the quality of international coverage was an additional important goal.
