This research examines the effects of family responsibility on wage of men and women, analyzing the data from the National Women and Family's Panel. The research expands the concept of family responsibility as including children(age under or over 6), household work hours, care for family members such as the disabled, parents, patients, while existing researches have used the number of children or their age as the major variable representing family responsibility. Major findings of the research are as follows: First, housework hours are associated with a negative effect on women's wage, while the effect on men's wage is not statistically significant. Secondly, the children over 6 is associated with a negative effect on women's wage, while men earn a wage premium drawn from the effect of children over 6. This result would imply that school children require more mother's time and energy than preschool children do. Finally, living with men and women's parents and the number of the disabled and patient family member do not represent a statistically significant effect, while living with men's parents is associated with a negative effect on men's wage. Men in the research sample report that they live together with their parents for their parents health problems. In conclusion, the variable of family care responsibility in the final model explains 50% of women's wage and only 33% of men's wage. This suggests that at present, care responsibility is gendered in a way in which women are taking more family care responsibility than men.
