The purpose of this study was to examine parenting behavior and participation in the care of children with disabilities. 233 individual mothers and fathers took part in this study by answering a survey. Our analysis revealed an average score higher than median levels in the sub-areas of 'reasonable guidance', 'overprotection', and 'orders and control' (i.e. 3 points out of 5 point scale). 'Rejection and hostility' had an average score lower than the median 3. In the areas of daily life and education, parental participation was higher than the median level and it did not exhibit any differences due to the child's gender, age, or degree of disability. Parenting behavior appeared to be influenced by the family’s income level, the parent’s age, and the children’s gender, age and degree of disability. Mothers were observed to participate in care more than fathers. Families with higher income levels were also found to have higher parental participation in education. Parents who exhibit reasonable and affectionate parenting behavior appeared to show a higher parental participation level. The more parents participated in their child's daily life and education of their child, the more reasonable and affectionate parental behavior they showed. The results of this study revealed a reciprocal relationship between positive parenting behaviors and the level of parental participation in the care of their child.
