본 연구는 활동보조인의 보조공학 인식 및 활용 정도를 알아보고, 활동보조인 기본교육에서 보조공학 관련 교육의 실태를 알아보고자 실시하였다. 기본교육 60시간을 이수하고 활동보조서비스 경험이 있는 활동보조인 101명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시한 결과, 휠체어 같은 이동보조기기에 대한 인식과 사용경험은 높았으나 그 밖의 보조공학 기기에 대한 사용경험은 매우 낮았다. 73명(72.3%)이 보조공학 기기 사용이 활동보조서비스에 도움이 된다고 응답했고, 86명(85.1%)이 향후 보조공학 사용 의사가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 보조공학 기기를 처음 접하게 된 계기는 활동보조인 교육보다 대상 장애인을 통해서가 더 많았다. 그리고 활동보조인 기본교육에서 보조공학 관련 수업은 있지만 단순한 기기 소개가 가장 많은 것으로 나타나 보조공학서비스 정보제공에 대 요구가 많았으며 전문 강사에 의한 실질적인 보조공학 활용 교육이 이루어질 수 있도록 활동보조인 교육과정의 개선이 요구된다.The purpose of this study was to investigate the awareness of assistive technology and the actual condition of related training among personal assistants. The subjects of this study were 101 personal assistants who completed 60 hours of standard education on personal assistance services. The personal assistants reported having more than average level of awareness and using experience in only mobility devices. But they have very badly level of using experience in other assistive technology devices. First experience of assistive technology devices was received from people with disability remarks 46 personal assistants(45.5%). There were 73 personal assistants(72.3%) saying that assistive technology provides good supports to personal assistance services. From now on 86(85.1%) personal assistants have intention of using assistive technology. In standard education for personal assistants, they received the assistive technology program during the course. The most of assistive technology education was focused in introduction of assistive technology devices. The finding indicated that personal assistants recognized how to provide certain assistive technology devices to people with disability. However, personal assistants is lacking in understanding on how to use and experience of assistive technology services. For the effective application of assistive technology in personal assistance services, there should be education of assistive technology for practical use and institutional provision is required.
