The purpose of this study is to show how administrative staff in medical institutions communicate. Based on narrative interviews with 10 administrative staff and text analysis of transcribed interview texts, we could obtain the following categories of internal communication in medical institutions: communicative experiences with other types of occupations such as doctors; experiences with other departments; experiences with other staff in one’s own departments, such as with one’ superior and inferior; communicative experiences by dialogue types such as meetings; communicative experiences by gender, by generations, by media; communicative experiences of effective communication. Among these eight categories, we concentrate on the two relevant categories ‘communicative experiences in one’s own department’ and ‘communicative experiences by dialogue types’.
