I have focused on finding data on the folk tales of Joseon and investigating basic bibliographies, and in line with it in this study I considered compilers’ whereabouts, basic bibliographies and significance of publication regarding Takagi Doshio 高雄(1876-1922)’s recording data on the stories passed down orally in Joseon, Yamasaki Gentaro’s Weird Stories and Legends of Joseon, and Dajima Yashide’s Ondol Yahwa. The outcomes are as follows:First, I found stories passed down orally in Joseon that Dakagi Doshio had written in 50 series (31 episodes) in The Yomiuri Shimbun (published serially from Feb. 2, 1913, to Jan. 28, 1914), and introduced the contents in relation to the works contained in The Oral Legendry for the New Japanese Education, published in 1917.
Second, it is about Weird Stories and Legends of Joseon. I investigated Yamasaki’s career on which the precedent researches were insufficient, and found out that the reason of publishing the legendry was to have faith based on ‘the theory that the Japanese and the Joseon people have a single ancestor’, to have the Japanese understand the Josoeon people for ‘the harmony of Joseon and Japan’, and to broadcast that ‘the Joseon people and the Japanese have the same root’.
Third, it’s about Tajima Yashide’s Ondol Yahwa. I investigated Tajima’s career on which the precedent researches were insufficient, and mentioned about the intention of compiling Ondol Yahwa, sources of contained folk tales and the consciousness of the humorous stories.
