This study examines the materials to be lower toxicity than acetone, using main ingredient of remover, and to minimize nail damage, and
analyze difference between two materials by morphological investigation, so recommends good enamel remover. To comparatively
analyze nail damage by organic solvents, three solvents such as acetone, ethyl acetate, and butyl acetate. These were operated at interval
of 5 days, then damage of nail surface and section was analyzed by SEM, AFM, CLSM. It was found that the damage by acetone of
ketone family was more than ethyl acetate and butyl acetate of ester family. Also, in removing, the speed of volatilization was similar for
acetone and ethyl acetate, and those of butyl acetate was lower than other two. Butyl acetate showed the lowest damage but acetone and
ethyl acetate showed better usability. Consequently, it is found that butyl acetate is the least in damage while acetone is the most. It is
considered that butyl acetate has relatively less influence on nail because it has the slowest speed of volatilization and its dissolving level
is less than acetone and ethyl acetate owing to nonpolar substance. Also, it is considered that ester gained mainly from animal and
vegetable has less toxicity than acetone, so it does for damage of nail. The results of this study shows that the product contained ethyl
acetate or butyl acetate of non-acetone which was less toxicity than acetone would be better to minimize nail damage when enamel
remover is used.
