This article sought to examine the militant nation's mother discussion in light of wartime nationalism grammar and self-direction. The militant nation's mother discussion was Japan's war propaganda in line with its war expansion. That discussion was aggressively dispersed in colonial chosun when the conscription system policy was issued on May 9, 1942 in line with the urgent necessity of mobilizing soldiers in relation to war expansion.
The militant nation’s mother discussion was introduced to support colonial chosun's shift from voluntary conscription system to the obligatory conscription system. Such wartime policy did not stop just with the militant nation's mother discussion leading husband and son to go to war, but drove wartime maternity to the extremes of sending them to war on behalf of the nation. Such an example would be the war god’s mother discussion which stands at the final end of the militant nation's mother discussion. The war god's mother discussion openly praised the expected deaths of husband and son in war, and this drove and led wartime nationalization of women during the Japanese colonial rule of colonial chosun.
However, the militant nation's mother discussion doubly twisted and bended nationalization of the wartime colonized people not less significantly than wartime nationalization of women did. This is because, as colonial chosun's unprecedented obligatory conscription system triggered Japanese males' superiority despite its equality rhetoric, the militant nation's mother discussion targeting women of colonial chosun saw such pursuit as a model. In this way, the imperial Japan concealed the people's poverty and wartime oppression, and made it possible or impossible to any time nationalize colonial Chosun's women during the war. The militant nation's mother discussion, which mediated in nationalizing women under the Japanese colonial rule of Chosun during the war time, however, was erased after Korea's liberation as if it had not existed before, and this prevents our reflection on and insights into the continued all-out efforts for war and the disconnected society. This can be confirmed in Jang Deok-jo's novel written after Korea's liberation. In this regard, the militant nation's mother discussion which mediated in and supported the nationalization of women of colonial Chosun during the war must be re-examined and re-illuminated at least to remember wartime total ordinary violence.
