This study compared and analyzed the hair characteristics of Koreans and Western people and deducted the following results. Korean
hair was 12% more thicker than Western hair, but through an indirect measurement of density using the MB dyeing method, the density
was 10.5% lower and 23.6% stronger in tension than Western hair. When examining through an optical microscopic, the surface of the
hair were all smooth without any impurities and when examining FE-SEM and TEM, Korean hair had 5 cuticle layers with a diameter of
92 μm and the cross-section was in a round form and the distance between cuticles was narrow with an angular end. The Western hair
had 6 cuticle layers with a diameter of 81 μm in an oval form and the distance between cuticle cells was broader than Korean hair and
the scales forming the waves of the hair were found to be unevenly angular and sharp at the end. The melanin granule were in a spiral
form in a concentric circle centering the core. In terms of amino acid content, the normal Western hair had 7.45% lower amino acid
content than Korean hair and on the other hand, Korean hair had a significantly high amount of cystine and glutamic acid compared with
other amino acids.
