During the Goryeo Dynasty, the Gyeongsang-do area was mainly divided into the territories of Donggyeong, Sangjumok and Jinjumok. This study aims to identify pit burial categories according to the burial structure and spatial arrangement of the burials of each regional territory. The burial structure of the pit burials were classified into 4 categories according to inner and outer facilities. It was possible to identify that, at the beginning of 12th century, the territory of Sangjumok had been the quickest to accept cultural elements. Spatial arrangement was classified into 4 categories and diachronic change in terms of spatial arrangement was also investigated. According to the investigation, there was an absence of spatial organization in the spatial arrangements of Phase I, and the same could be observed for the next phase, Phase II. However, as the distance between tombs became shorter, owing to an increase in the number of pit burials, a different type of spatial arrangement appeared. At the beginning of Phase III, the spatial arrangement of burials took on a variety of forms. In the case of the b-type, an official who had worked in the central government established his burial ground in the local area and adopted the jokbun method, a method which later came to be adopted by members of the local elite. As a transitional mode of spatial arrangement, the c-type demonstrates a method that stresses the communal element. The d-type illustrates a spatial arrangement with much shorter distances between burials - this is because a greater number of pit burials were built within the same grave boundaries. If we investigate aspects of class with regard to spatial arrangement, the a-type of Phase I can be seen to have been adopted by the middle class while the a-type of Phase II was adopted by the middle class and a few members of the noble class. The b-type of Phase III is considered to be of the middle and noble classes. The c-type is understood to have been used by the middle class and the noble class, while the d-type is seen to have been used by the noble class and middle class.
