Kim So Wol and Baek Suk are highly important people in the history of Korean poetic literature. This is the reason why they are so popular for people who study modern poetry. This paper is a comparison of them. The most characteristic thing is that Kim So Wol has rhythmical points in his work. The 7.5stanza is related to that point. This is accepting the tradition of Korean folk songs rather than the influence of Japan. His works focus on hearing instead of reading. That is, it aims at the listeners instead of the readers. While Kim So Wol's poetry is auditive, Baek Suk's poetry is visual. The main reasons that Baek Suk's poetry is visual are his preference for descriptive and loose meaning rather than implicative and solid meaning. Also modernism influenced his poetry to be visual. Kim So Wol's poetry arouses auditory sensibility but there is no auditory inspiration in Baek Suk's poetry. So it is hard to read, not to mention to listen to. Baek Suk's poetic world can be described as a sea of the deepread native tongue. So readers have to study the Korean language on their own while they are reading his work. There are two sides to understanding his works. One is giving a high opinion of his own language. The other is conceding his own language with some doubt. I support the latter. Kim So Wol emphasized rules of grammar in his poetry, but Baek Suk tried to break these rules in his work. The former wants to use implicative words and compacted meaning, whereas the latter has a tendency to use loose words and narrative contexts. It could be harder to read Baek Suk's poetry than Kim So Wol's with the conventional reading method.
