This paper is to review the status of Americanism among the Korean intellectuals in 1950s and to study the poetic transformation of Park In-hwan who represented the Americanism. For instance, during the period of the liberation of Korea, Park In-hwan maintained that the extreme materialism of America symbolized the lack of spirit and tradition in itself. However, his schematic understanding and standpoint toward the ‘Things America’ had been changed in the middle of 1950s by writing articles for American movie reviews. Through the representation of a victorious country such as The Pacific War and the Spirit of the West, Park In-hwan came to understand that the absence of tradition is the root of the culture of its splendid Americanism. In case of Park In-hwan, as the awareness of globalism is gained by opening one's culture, so the experience of Americanism can be ended in the attempt of examining the possibility of Korean culture. This brought forward due to its topicality in that the progressive identities of modernists and their force clearly revealed the point that was refracted in the media fantasy of America (American culture).
