The following results on the causes of industrial accidents and preventive measures in the machinery
manufacturing industry(including parts) could be derived, based on the records between 2008 and 2012 of the
Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency. During the past 5 years, the overall average of industrial
accidents in Korea was 0.67%. In the manufacturing industry it was 0.96%, and in the machinery
manufacturing industry(including parts) a surprising 1.54%. The reason that the accident rate is so high is
because in the machine manufacturing industry, manual work rate on a unit equipment is high and shops
which have less than 50 workers make up 97.6% of all factories. Industrial accidents have been classified into
25 different categories and 40.8% were caused by wrapping and jamming, making it the major category to take
preventive measures. Hazardous machines which cause frequent accidents include presses, shears, cranes, and
robots(machine tools). Some workers are aware of operating procedures to use the machinery safely but they
frequently ignore the procedure. The main reasons for ignoring the procedure are due to cutting costs, meeting
shipment dates, and working conditions. The following results on the causes of industrial accidents and preventive measures in the machinery
