The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of college students' learning styles and gender on self-regulated learning strategies and learning outcomes in an online learning environment. The subjects of this study were 223 college students in an online class of B university in Gyeonggi-do. The students participating in the experiment took tests on Kolb's learning style index(K-LSI) and self-regulated learning strategies. The result of this study indicated that there were significant differences on self-regulated learning strategies among learning style. For learning style type I (Abstract Conceptualization (AC) vs Concrete Experience (CE)) and gender on multivariate analysis for self-regulated learning strategies, AC group had more impact on time management strategies than CE group and female students had more impact on note-taking strategies than male students. For learning style type II (Reflective Observation (RO) vs Active Experimentation (AE)) and gender on multivariate analysis for self-regulated learning strategies, RO groups had more impact on mata-cognitive strategies and note-taking strategies than AE group. Moreover, female students had more impact on time management strategies than male group within RO group, Male students had more impact on time management strategies than female group within AC group. There were significant differences on learning outcomes among learning style type I (AC vs CE). For learning outcomes, AC group had more impact on the degree of online discussion participation than CE group. Male students had more impact on the degree of online discussion participation than female students within AC group. Moreover, female students had more impact on the degree of online discussion participation than male group within CE group. But, there was no significant difference on learning outcomes among learning style type II (RO vs AE) and gender. The results of this study will contribute to presenting the direction in teaching-learning strategies and learning system development for supporting personalized learning process in an online learning environment.
