Cheongju Jongsa(靑州從事麴生 謝拜歡伯將軍 以攻愁城) is a Gajeon recorded in a literary collection, 『Changmyoung Yougo 滄溟遺稿』, by Changmyoung Namseon in the mid Joseon Dynasty. Cheongju Jongsa in which Changmyoung personified a booze is first introduced in this study. This study examined a descriptive structure, characteristics and literary value of Cheongju Jongsa as a Gajeon literature, based on the text by Changmyoung Namseon, a Gyeongsang provincial governor with fame as one of eight distinguished writers in the Sobook Party. Cheongju Jongsa took the form of Jeonpyo(箋表), written in ‘a verse form of antithesis in four-and-six words’ (사륙변려체). Compared to other Gajeon literatures composed of essays, therefore, there are many differences in the matter of its point of view, substance and structure. Considering those characteristics, except the part of Post-clue it is generally appropriate to the structure of Gajeon literature, Beginning (서두)- Pre-clue (선계)- Vestige (사적)- Ending (종말)- Post-clue (후손)- Concluding (평결). It sustained a structure of booze-personifying Gajeon literature, also trying a new descriptive technique using verses. It also succeeded to a traditional idea of Gajeon Literature that a booze can make people forget worldly anxiety, and it parodied a subject matter of Sooseong (the world of anxiety) which was often appeared in Symseong Gajeon. It described a typical type of an ideal faithful retainer emphasized in a Confucian culture In these senses, Cheongju Jongsa is a characteristic work in 17th century which sought for a new paradigm in booze-personifying Gajeon literature.
