1910년대 권상로가 창작한 불교가요가 가창의 가능성을 내재하고 있을 뿐 새로운 악곡이 개발되지 않았기 때문에 불교가요로서 자격이 부족하다고 말할 수도 있다. 그러나 음악 중심의 창작이 아니라 가사 중심의 창작이라 하더라도, 가창의 가능성을 염두에 둔 나름대로의 가요의식을 보여주고 있다는 점에서, 권상로가 1910년대 한국 근대불교가요의 형성사에서 차지하는 위상은 거의 독보적이라 할 수 있다.In this paper I tried to search for the process of making modern Korean Buddhist song in 1910's. All the Buddhist songs in the magazine in 1910's were analysed for this purpose. It would be clear that style of Korean old traditional poetry had important role for building up this new poetry.
Diverse attempt to make new Buddhist poetry was showed at 『Chosun Buddhist Monthly(조선불교월보)』 more than the other magazines published in 1910's. And this attempt was reappeared at 1920's in diverse routes. So it can be say that Kwon's attempt to make modern Korean Buddhist song has a significant meanings. Some works of modern Buddhist song created by him had a significant meanings in 1910's Korean Buddhist musical history.
