Peace lasted since the establishment of Tokukawa Bakuhu(德川 幕府). As The population and productivity grew, the merchant class called ‘Choning(町人)’ rose. By Choning, Kyoto(京都), Osaka(大阪), and Edo(江?) took shape as cities. First among these cities, in Kyoto, commercial publishing sprouted, since this former capital city contained sufficient population and had cultural basis.
The publishing of responsory writings between Joseon Tonshinsa and Japanese kept increased from the 4thvisit of Joseon Tongshinsa to the 11th visit. After the 11th visit, 23 varieties of titles were published, which was the largest number ever. Until the 8th visit, Publishers were only in Kyoto, but since the 8th visit, publishers in Edo(江?) appeared. They published (or at least engaged in publishing) 9 titles of responsory writings during the 29 years between the 9th and the 10th visit, and this number of publishing is surpassing those of other publishers’ who were in other cities. After the 11th visit, the number of publishing and the variety of titles of responsorywritings were the largest and the widest. In the same time, the publishers appeared also in other regions like Nagoya(名古屋) and Nagato(長門).
Publishers locating in Osaka(大阪), Nagoya(名古屋) and Nagato(長門) particularly published those responsory writings which were writtenin their regions, or in which writers from their regions engaged, while publishers from Kyoto(京都) and Edo(江?) did not much care where the responsory writings took place or who were the participants.
For examples, those responsory writings like ≪兩東唱和錄≫, ≪和韓唱和≫, ≪韓?塤?集≫ and ≪和韓文會≫ were exchanged in Honganzi(本願寺), Osaka(大阪), and they all were published only in Osaka(大阪).
And to talk about ≪表海英華≫, ≪和韓醫談≫, ≪三世唱和≫ and ≪殊服同調集≫, writers from Nagoya(名古屋) participated in these responsory writings, so publishers in Nagoya(名古屋) were engaged in publishing these titles.
We can see the responsorywritings between Joseon Tonshinsa and Japanese were very actively published. It means that wide range of Japanese, regardless the region or era, could share the cultural exchanges between writers from Joseon and Japan. It shows how influential the visits of Joseon Tongshinsa were to Japanese culture.
