This is a sociological study on tourism and ritual in mobile world, that is approaching mediated tourism such as a cyber-tourism from the viewpoint of the complexity of interaction ritual. This study emphasizes that ritual is a way of the interpretation of the world and a form of human action, not the way of transcendence and universal solidarity. Detailed contents of this study are as follows. First of all, this research is based on analysis of other previous studies on tourism as a ritual; one characterized by a ritualization of tourism as the standardization of the purpose and the motive; the other characterized by the expansion of the routinization and the globalization of tourism. Second, unlike previous research, this study suggests that a variety of tourists perform the complexity of interaction ritual. With the expansion of technologically-mediated mobilities, the fluidity and complexity in contemporary tourism are increasing. Third, this study applies the complexity of interaction ritual in contemporary tourism to media tourism and cyber-tourism. Cyber-tourism interrelated with corporeal travel have features of intersectional mobilities, and cyber-tourists have fluid and complex identities. Interaction ritual between cyber-tourists is able to activate not only the formation of new ties based on proximity without propinquity, but also the duration of decentralized counter-ritual which deconstructs the mythologization of tourist attractions.
