This study was conducted to grope the direction of future exhibition patterns in forest museums by analyzing the exhibition tendencies of forest museums through the analyses of the present state of forest museums in Korea, exhibition tendencies by theme and delivery forms. Based on the results of analysis of exhibition tendencies by theme, plant related themes accounted for 50% of all themes, other themes accounted for 13.2% and use related themes accounted for 12.1% and thus plants accounted for around a half of the distribution of the themes of forest museums. Animal related themes were mainly classification (50.5%) and ecology(46.2%), plant related themes are mainly ecology(44.1%), use related themes were mainly protection and management(31.3%) and processing(26.3%), environment related themes were mainly ecology (40%) and soil(28%), experience related themes were mainly others (40.2%) and ecology(37.9%) and other themes were mainly living·general·equipment·public relations(75.9%) and forest policies ·administration(24.1%). Forest museums’ exhibition themes are excessively concentrated on plants and thus measures to specialize forest museums should be devised through education/public relations in linkage with environments. Exhibition media types were classified and the results indicated that solids (43%) and planes (42%) dominated. Therefore, it was indicated that exhibition media that can provide diverse experiences to visitors were necessary. Delivery forms were analyzed and based the results, the most important medium to deliver contents was narrators (4.11) while the use rate of VTR (3.15) was the lowest. Since video data and VTR were shown to be significantly related, it was identified that visitors preferred firsthand experience through narration by experts. Therefore, forest museums should avoid passive measures such as VTR and should utilize diverse exhibition media that emphasize more active experience.
