Chu-tzu who compiled neo–Confucianism did systematize his studies influenced by both Buddhology and Taoism with lixue in the center. This can be understood that he did try to empathize with the real world organically, not just remaining in philosophical grounds when forming his own subjective view to society. The fact that Chu-tzu did see ‘li’ as the essence of all creation succeeding to the idea of ercheng and regard it as unchangeable norms present in society implies that the logic of samgyo (Confucianism, Buddhism, & Taoism) intending to interact with society organically is substantially identical with minor differences. If what was extended from this and intended to identify the nature of human beings formed in society corresponds to Treatise of Human Nature, we can also say that what did solidify the norms of society through relationship among human beings equals ‘sangang’.
Each individual lives as a social being through cultivating himself in the society he belongs to. From the viewpoint that he gets to form norms through various experiences he has come to have in the society, Chu-tzu’s view of society was established. From this perspective, this study sees that while neo-Confucianism did maintain and develop social norms based on ‘rye’, it did also form a view of society by communicating with symgyo and combining it to what was ultimately pursued. Furthermore, the study has reached a conclusion that the idea of Chu-tzu who constantly investigated the nature of human beings and tried to hold on to sociability continually not losing the essence is good enough to let us realize the aspects of society we are lacking. If in the process of developing civilization, mankind has emphasized only the superiority of pragmatic human beings but disregarded communication with others or other cultures, the messages that Chu-tzu’s view of society grounded on samgyohapryu (fusion of Confucianism, Buddhism, & Taoism) will be the great example for us.
