본고에서는 『경세훈민정음도설』 坤冊의 69%분량을 차지하는 「群書折衷」의 주석을 통하여 최석정의 성음인식과 세계관, 그리고 학문배경에 대해 입체적인 조망을 실현하고자 한다.『Kyǒngsehunminchǒngǔmtosǒl(經世訓民正音圖說)』was a book which was wri tten by Ch’oe, Sǒkchǒng(崔錫鼎, 1646-1715) in the late Joseon dynasty. This book was transcribed by hand, whose original copy was written for a publi cation. Kim, Chiyong(金智l勇) found 『Kyǒngsehunminchǒngǔmtosǒl』in Hahap munko(河合文庫) at Tokyo University in Japan. Since it was in a state of total neglect, it has many parts damaged and many characters unre cognized.
However, Ch’oe, Sǒkchǒng, who served eight times as the prime minister of the Joseon dynasty, was a legitimist following the phonemic system of so-called ‘Chǒlunkyeunsǒ(切韻系韻書)’such as『Chǒlun(切韻)』,『Tangun(唐韻)』, and 『Kwangun(廣韻)』. In addition, he provided specific sound values of the Chinese characters with Hunminjeongeum in the frame of divining art, which was under the influence of 『Hwangkǔkkyǒngsesǒngǔmch’anghwato(皇極經世聲音唱和圖)』by Soong(邵雍). Therefore, 『Kyǒngsehunminchǒngǔmtosǒl(經世訓民正音圖說)』clearly shows not only Ch’oe, Sǒkchǒng‘s view for the traditional Chinese phonology, but also his strong sense of vocation and ambition for‘Chosǒnchunghwachuǔi(조선중화주의)’in an age of turmoil when Ming dyna sty had fallen and Qing dynasty was established.
The studies of『Kyǒngsehunminchǒngǔmtosǒl』have been usually focused only on Kǒnch’aek(乾冊) while Konch’aek(坤冊) has never been introduced. Hence, a full scale of study on『Kyǒngsehunminchǒngǔmtosǒl』is needed. Through interpreting annotates of 「Kunsǒchǒlch’ung(群書折衷)」which are 69% of Kon ch’aek(坤冊), this study will illuminate Ch’oe, Sǒkchǒng‘s perspective for pho nology, his view of the world, and his academic backgrounds from all angles.
