This study examines the effects of physically active games on the movement factor of young children's basic athletic ability and self-regulation. Subjects consist of 56 five-year-old children, who are divided into an experimental group of 28 and a comparison group of 28. The experimental group plays the physically active games based on the movement factor while the comparison group engages in general physical activity. The results are as follows. First, participants in the experimental group score higher on the basic athletic ability test than do their counterparts in the comparison group. Second, participants in the experimental group also score higher on the self-regulation test than do their counterparts in the comparison group. The findings suggest that physically active games based on the movement elements have a positive impact on young children’s basic athletic ability and self-regulation. Therefore, physically active games should be considered as a meaningful alternative method for teaching and learning methods to help improve the athletic ability of young children.
