This study analyzes a Borges’ short story “Theme of the Traitor and the Hero”, based on the categories of intertextuality elaborated by Rob Pope: the explicit, the implied and the inferred. As for the explicit intertextuality, Yeats and Shakespeare are treated; in terms of the implied, Chesterton, Leibniz and the cyclical doctrines; and as for the inferred, the meaning of the names of Kilpatrick and Nolan, and the theories of Vaihinger and Mauthner that match with the concept of Borges’s fiction.
In “Theme of the Traitor and the Hero” the creative act is displayed through the plagiarism and betrayal. But it can be considered as an interpretation or a postulation of the reality. It seems to point out the impossibility of the certainty and through this multiplicity, it is evident that the world admits the infinite interpretation.
